About Kiroween

Kiroween is the first-ever hackathon built around Kiro, an AI-powered Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that helps you build robust, spec-driven software through natural conversation and advanced coding techniques. This Halloween-themed hackathon invites developers to create unforgettable, innovative projects that push the boundaries of creativity and technology.

What to Build

Entrants must develop a working software application using Kiro’s unique features such as vibe coding, agent hooks, steering docs, MCP, or specs. Projects are submitted into one of four categories:

- Resurrection:

Bring obsolete technology back to life with modern innovation.

- Frankenstein:

Combine disparate technologies into a powerful, unified application.

- Skeleton Crew:

Create a versatile skeleton codebase supporting multiple distinct applications.

- Costume Contest:

Build any app featuring a hauntingly polished and memorable user interface with spooky design elements.

Submission Requirements

- Public GitHub repository with open-source license, including the required .kiro directory

- For Skeleton Crew, separate folders for the two distinct applications

- Functional app deployment with optional login credentials

- A 3-minute demo video explaining your submission (uploaded publicly on YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook)

- Detailed write-up describing your use of Kiro’s features such as vibe coding, agent hooks, spec-driven development, steering docs, and MCP

- Specify your category and any bonus categories for submission

Prizes & Awards

- Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes

- Best project awards for Resurrection, Frankenstein, Skeleton Crew, and Costume Contest categories

- Bonus awards for Best Startup Project, Most Creative, Influencer Judges' Choice, Social Blitz, and Blog Post

Judging Criteria

- Potential Value: Usefulness, accessibility, and wide applicability of the solution

- Implementation: Effective leverage of Kiro’s AI-powered development features

- Quality and Design: Creativity, originality, and polished user experience
